Owning a large split-level home on 15 acres along the New River, the R family longed for a smaller, more intimate space near the water—somewhere for guests, personal retreats, and, eventually, retirement. Ink Works Studio designed a 428-square-foot cottage that feels expansive through efficient layout, passive solar design, and extensive covered porches that nearly double the living area. Large sliding doors erase the boundary between indoors and out, creating a seamless connection to the land. Completed in 2022, the R family Cottage is a serene, eco-conscious retreat that embodies simplicity and sustainability—proof that a small footprint can deliver big comfort and beauty.
