Like so many people, I grew up in a small, simple ranch home. Many of the homes in my neighborhood had the same floor plan, or some variation thereof. It was a very typical 1960's suburban development. What amazed me, at an early age, was how each family had modified this plan to fit their needs. Many closed in the garage to make an additional bedroom for 2 or more children; others had removed walls to make the spaces feel larger than their dimensions. Our family spent nearly 30 years re-building our simple home until it was truly a comfortable living space.
